Leah Dizon Live

Leah Dizon is no spring chicken when it comes to the entertainment activity. Apart from being a popular vocalist, Leah is a Japanese model - a gravure model (bikini, lingerie, and other provocative clothing) to be exact. Leah, however, is actually not Japanese. Her ethnicity is a mixture of Chinese, Filipino and French. She was born in Las Vegas, where she lived for most of her young life. Leah attempted to establish a modeling career as an import model in the states, but that career choice didn't work out.

So Leah decided to go a different route. Her modeling career took sexier guidance and Leah became a gravure model. Her photo shoots became more provocative and this managed to generate a strong fan base in Asia and the United States. It is obvious that most of her fans were men. Leah's fans encouraged her to begin a musical career and she sent a tape to Victor Entertainment who jumped at the chance to offer Leah a contract. She decided to settle down in Tokyo and will release her first photo book in 2006 and a 2007 calendar. In early 2007 it was announced that her first song would be free.

Leah hasn’t altered much from her gravure beginnings. She is featured in her album covers scantily-clad and hugging a large stuffed animal. However, Victor Entertainment was smart enough to promote a more female-welcoming image, in addition to her sexy reputation. This trend is akin to Koda Kumi’s dual image marketing method by avex. In most of her videos Kumi is sexy, aggressive and windswept, but on other videos and magazine photo shoots, Kumi looks like a cute and childlike Barbie doll. Leah Dizon follows this trend, where in her promotional clips and photo shoots she looks reserved and cute as a button, to the magnitude that you find it unbelievable that this girl is actually a glamour model and some photos of her are utterly provocative.

The album was available in two formats; a standard copy with a poster, and a limited CD+DVD edition. Both had the same cover art, one of them being a cropped rendering of the other. Also, the third song on both versions were different from the other. Her single received a lot of attention by the Japanese media mainly because Leah is a foreigner and most people know how foreigners fascinate the Japanese. However I don't believe a lot of people knew that Leah has as much musical talent as Kylie Minogue despite the fact that she has had little musical training. Even though Leah isn’t very fluent in Japanese, she still attended numerous television programs to promote her album. Her single made its unveiling on Oricon's ranking at #7.
